Writing/Spelling

Writing and Spelling  -
  • Annalise will continue to be provided with ample opportunities to explore her rapidly increasing writing  and spelling skills, both in print and online.
  • Annalise became an independent writer during the course of this quarter.
  • She has had many diverse opportunities and complete freedom in her writing.
  • Her parents' role has shifted into support - providing requested spellings, pointing Annalise toward appropriate reference materials when she needs them, and offering suggestions that may improve the quality of her ability to communicate as she wishes in writing.
  • She will have free access to a variety of media for creating written notes, cards, stories, and online postings, as well as access to home and public libraries, including online and print dictionary resources.
  •  Annalise  used a variety of media for writing, including paint, glue, sand, chalk, self-made ink, markers, pens, and pencils.  She has used papers, glass, wood, the driveway, the ground, and computers as writing surfaces.
  • She indulged in a greater use of dictionaries, indexes, charts, and Internet searches throughout this quarter.
  • Her passion for creating complex verbal storylines and creating books with words and illustrations will  be fully supported, and she will be given ample time to explore these and related pursuits independently.
  • Annalise began using considerably more text in her art throughout this quarter.
  • She continues to create increasingly complex storylines, usually with stuffed animals, Littlest Pet Shop characters, or baby dolls.
  • Often, she and Jeremiah play out involved scripts that range through the house, the yard, and other places we go, and last for hours or even days.
  • Her parents will facilitate by providing the materials and time for free exploration, by answering questions and offering advice as requested, and through discussions that help Annalise clarify what she  is trying to express via written words, as needed.
  • Annalise is given ample supplies and time, and free access to use them as she wishes.
